Presenting . . . Stained Glass 🪞
Thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s collage! A reminder: If there are themes you’d be excited to collage, please submit your prompts here. And now, here are the truly stunning results for Stained Glass:
“Mediterrano” by Christine Lynn Trigg
This month's submission literally gave me a headache while I was working on it. Maybe it was the sharpie fumes. This work took on a life of its own. Originally, I was envisioning something with a water theme since glass has that quality of being watery/bubbly, especially the old stained glass that is handmade, but somehow it became a bit sinister. It reminds me of when you're snorkeling, looking at all the pretty fish. Then...you see something off in the deep water. You start to think something's lurking... just out of your sight, something jagged and scary. I call it "Mediterrano." When I made it, it was vertical, but I think it wants to be viewed horizontally.
“Rhoda and John” by Eloise Carson
Visiting museums and churches in Europe, I was astonished at how many paintings of Madonna and child have been painted over the centuries. This collage theme inspired me to try my own mother and child using this photograph of my father and his mother, who died on his fourth birthday. The way the photographer positioned his subjects replicates the traditional mother and child paintings of long ago. I enjoyed reinventing the classic portrait to my own vision and giving these two special people new life.
“See Through” by Melissa Trigg-Collins
I made this right after I visited an art gallery. The collage came together almost by itself. The colors are the “glass” and the heads I’m sure were in my subconscious after admiring the work of a local artist.
“Stained Glass Worshipper” by Katie O.
“Rose Window” by Eleanor Cummins

As per usual, I really struggled with my own prompt! After trying a few different methods, I settled on this paper cathedral x hand-drawn shrinky dink “rose window”. It’s exceedingly simple, but actually stands on its own and genuinely looked beautiful in the sunlight!
“what was that” by Franchesca
“Chivalry is Not Dead” by Meg Woods
I have a new appreciation of medieval stained glass artists. I started with the knight, added some brilliant colors with the black framing or patina (called “grisaille”), and then cheated with the gems and Queen/Saint Elon, turning it into a piece of DOGE propaganda—the purpose of medieval stained glass in a time of illiteracy! #letthemeatcake #drunkonpower
And that’s it for our August Stained Glass collages! Thank you for everyone who submitted.
Next up is our September theme, Words! You still have two weeks (okay, let’s be real, a whole month) to submit — please remember to share your creations with us via email at a.hannah.seo@gmail.com. Be sure to include a photo of your artwork, a title, and (optional) a short description of the piece and/or your process.
We’ll see you on October 1st with a whole new prompt and a showcase of Word collages on October 15. Until then!
