Thank you to everyone who participated in this monthβs collage! A reminder: If there are themes youβd be excited to collage, please submit your prompts here. And now, here are the truly stunning results for Big Three:
βEmotional Beauty: A Cancer-Libra soulβ by Gabriela Dorantes
In the center is my sun sign Cancer: water and emotions. And on the sides, my moon and rising sign Libra: air, love, beauty, relationships and harmony.
βSum of its Partsβ by Eleanor Cummins
I found this prompt (which I submitted!) essentially impossible to collage. And then it came together all at once. Β
βHoly Trinity of Cajun cookingβ by Katie O.
I thought about the concept of βthreesβ for a couple of days. I came up with two options: love of chocolate or love of cooking. Tossed both around. Could have gone either way: Hersheys, Mars, Milky Way, Etc. Decided on the Holy Trinity of Cajun cooking: onion, celery, and peppers.
I was chopping onion at the time I decided. I peeled the onion skins back and cooked them down with little water. I used this in the paper as my background; painted it on, then swirled a few radish remnants in to resemble flowers. Let it sit a few days.
While replacing soaps in bathroom one afternoon, I realized the Irish Spring box was perfect for my trinity pieces. Then, I got to work cutting, pasting, painting bits, gilding bits, etc. Although not part of the Trinity, I couldnβt leave out garlic(which btw is referred to as the Pope).
βOh My!β by Hannah Seo
Butterflies, monkeys, demons, oh my! Rather than take a straightforward astrological approach to this prompt, I decided to create an interpretation of my current psycheβwhich is, a swirling flurry of whimsy (butterflies), ambition/work (monkey), and despair/chaos/nihilism (demon). I like this pink blonde girl because (1) she looks like sheβs disassociated and (2) she very much does not look like me (hence why maybe sheβs a good stand in for my own disassociation??). I really like this one. I feel like, compared to my others, this collage is a little bit formless and loose. In a good way!
βAspirational Meβ by Meg Woods
I know nothing about astrology so I chose to explore it and if Iβm βreading the starsβ correctly, I havenβt lived up to my potential. My Aries sun aspires to be fiery, brave, honestβa warrior like the badass on the left but it is more like the shadow knight below. My Virgo moon is analytical and overthinks and bears the weight of the world awkwardly. My Libra rising is supposed to be charming and social but it desires harmony and avoids confrontation in lieu of placid water.
And thatβs it for our January Big Three collages! Thank you for everyone who submitted.
Next up is our February theme, Home! You still have two weeks (okay, letβs be real, a whole month) to submit β please remember to share your creations with us via email at a.hannah.seo@gmail.com. Be sure to include a photo of your artwork, a title, and (optional) a short description of the piece and/or your process.
Weβll see you on March 1 with a whole new prompt and a showcase of Home collages on March 15. Until then!
What a great little club we have! π
